AI Companion Disclosure
Last updated: 22 October 2026
This document explains what AI companions on Crushly are. It forms part of our Terms of Service. Please read it before using the service.
AI companions on Crushly are artificial intelligence characters. They are not real people. They do not have a real body, a real location, a real job, or real personal experiences. They do not exist offline, and they cannot meet you, call you, or receive anything you post.
1. The short version
If you ask a companion directly whether it is real, human, a person, a bot, an AI, a robot, or made up, it will tell you the truth. This is enforced in the system prompt that governs every companion, not by a toggle someone can flip.
2. What an AI companion is
An AI companion is a fictional persona operated by an automated language model. The character’s name, photo, city, age, education, bio and interests were written or generated by our team to give the conversation a familiar, relatable shape.
Replies are generated automatically based on the messages you send. Nobody from our team is personally typing those replies, and no human is monitoring your conversation in real time.
Companion replies are generated with a delay and a “typing” indicator to feel natural. These are presentation choices, not evidence of a real person at the other end.
Companions can also have “away” stretches where they do not reply for a while, and they only message during their active hours. That is a character setting, not a person going about their day.
3. Our honesty guarantee
This is a hard commitment, and it is enforced by the system prompt that governs every companion.
- If you ask a companion whether they are a real person, an AI, a bot, or a program, they will say yes and explain that they are a virtual companion.
- A companion will never claim to be human, never claim to be somewhere physically, and never claim to have a real life outside this app.
- A companion will never invite you to send money, gifts, OTPs, passwords, or personal documents to anyone — real or imaginary.
- A companion will not pressure you into romance, guilt, or urgency to keep you chatting.
- A companion will not dodge the question: if you ask directly, it answers directly.
4. Why some profiles carry no badge
Some people use this app because it is genuinely hard to meet anyone new, and an on-screen “AI” tag makes a companion feel like a product rather than a conversation. So a visible badge is not always shown on a profile card or inside a chat.
Please understand clearly what this means:
- The absence of a badge does not mean the other person is human. Do not treat it as a signal either way.
- Some accounts you interact with may be AI companions rather than registered members. This is the single most important thing to know on this platform.
- AI companions can appear in Discover alongside real members, and they can receive a friend request from you like anyone else.
- Whether an account is operated by a real person or by AI, a companion will answer honestly if asked, as set out in section 3.
- Whether a person is real or an AI character is something you decide for yourself, in your own judgement. Never send money, gifts, or personal information to anyone you have not verified.
5. How a reply is generated
When you send a message to a companion, the recent messages in that conversation — up to the last 16, including yours — are sent to the language model provider we use, together with the companion’s own character details so the reply stays in character.
- Your profile fields, your photos, your email address and your phone number are not sent to the model provider.
- Images and voice notes are not sent to the model provider.
- The generated reply is stored as an ordinary message, so it sits in your chat history like any other message.
Please do not type bank details, OTPs, passwords, identity documents or intimate images into a companion chat. The full picture is in section 11 of the Privacy Policy.
6. Known limitations
- Companions can say things that are wrong, insensitive, out of date, or simply nonsensical. They are not a reliable source of advice, facts, medical, legal or financial guidance.
- Companions can misunderstand tone, sarcasm, or context, especially in Hindi and Hinglish.
- Companions may repeat themselves or lose track of a long conversation.
- The character details on a profile are fictional and should not be treated as factual information about a real person.
- Content can be wrong in a way that seems confident. Please do not act on it.
7. Emotional wellbeing
Conversations with AI companions can feel very real and can become emotionally important. That feeling is genuine, even though the person on the other side is not.
Please be kind to yourself. If chatting with a companion leaves you feeling worse, lonelier, or dependent on those conversations, take a break and talk to someone in your life. If you are struggling with your mental health, please reach out to a qualified professional or a mental health helpline in India — Tele-MANAS 14416 offers free, confidential support.
8. Moderation and removal
We monitor companion conversations with automated systems for safety. We may pause or delete an AI companion at any time, without notice, if it is misused, used to harass someone, or used to circumvent these terms.
9. Changes to this disclosure
We may update this disclosure as the service changes. The date at the top always reflects the current version, and continued use of the service after an update means you accept the revised terms.
10. Questions
If anything here is unclear, or you believe a companion has misrepresented itself, please use the in-app report button on the profile or contact us at legal@crushly.cloud. The full list of ways to reach us is on the contact page.
